Actor and comedian George Lopez and his daughter Mayan Lopez talked about how they reconciled and have been able to build a relationship after years of estrangement.
Relationships are difficult, often tricky things in which to maneuver. Feelings are not always easy to articulate. Things can come out wrong, and actions can be misinterpreted. Feelings can be easily hurt and lead to massively damaged and broken-beyond-repair relationships. Relationships, especially between a parent and a child, must be handled with great care, love and sensitivity.
In a clip posted on YouTube, George and his daughter Mayan appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and talked about their since-mended relationship and their sitcom, Lopez vs. Lopez.
The series, as Mayan mentions, is loosely based on her and her father’s previously strained relationship. However, she adds that the program is an opportunity for her to further heal from when she and her father weren’t in a good place.
“This is such an opportunity to heal, and I always wanted my pain to mean something,” Mayan said.
She added that she has learned how to have empathy and to understand some of the things that her father did that she may not have agreed with in years past.
George added that when growing up, people would disappear from his life. But he adds that as he became an adult, he wanted to break that pattern. He desired a relationship with his daughter.
“I finally realized that, as an adult, that I couldn’t and didn’t want to do that or go down that road anymore,” George said. “And that this person [his daughter Mayan] right here was the one love of my life, and one I would never let go for anything.”
Praise God that these two were able to mend a broken relationship and decided that they needed the other in their life.

![<p>A man in his mid-60s was finally able to properly celebrate his graduation from high school nearly 50 years after the fact.</p>
<p>No two people are the same. This is especially true when it comes to the classroom. Everyone learns in different ways and at various speeds. Some people can grasp and understand concepts with lightning-quick speed. Others may require more time, patience and understanding to comprehend a new thought or idea.</p>
<p>In a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSdBjULLbpU">clip posted on YouTube</a>, one man received a high school graduation ceremony after he missed his first one 47 years earlier.</p>
<p>The text in the video explains that as a teenager, Bishop Samuel Jones Jr. missed out on taking part in his high school graduation ceremony by a single point. His grade in a pre-algebra class was too low to walk across the stage and accept his high school diploma.</p>
<p>“I never got a heads up from any of my teachers, or from anyone [in school] that it was not gonna go in my favor,” a quote from Bishop Samuel Jones Jr. reads.</p>
<p>However, despite that initial setback, the video states that Jones, with a small amount of tutoring and extra time, was able to pass the class. He did eventually receive his diploma but never walked across the stage to get that piece of paper.</p>
<p>But Bishop Samuel Jones Jr.’s wife corrected that and surprised him with a ceremony celebrating his graduation from high school. In the clip, he enters the room blindfolded and is quickly dressed in a cap and gown.</p>
<p>Many of his close friends and family members are seated throughout the room, ready for the surprise ceremony.</p>
<p>The crowd erupts with thunderous applause as the blindfold is removed from his eyes.</p>
<p>What a beautiful ceremony. It's an example of love and kindness from all involved who helped to celebrate his educational accomplishment. </p>
