Solomon built altars to foreign gods and the Lord told him that his kingdom would be taken away from his son. Because of Solomon's sin, the nation of Israel would now be split between the Northern and Southern kingdoms. Each nation would have different struggles, but the root of their problems would always be their denial of the one, true, Almighty God.

Ruth said, "...your people will be my people and your God my God". It was through her because of her devotion to Naomi that she met Boaz. Boaz redeemed Ruth and provided her with a son, Obed. Through the Providence of God, the Messianic line continued. The lesson here is to always trust in the Lord, He always has a plan.

Solomon was blessed with more wisdom and riches than any man before him or since, but he still showed disobedience to God. Our God is a jealous God and He will have no one before Him. When Solomon built alters to foreign gods in Israel, the Lord told him that his kingdom would be ripped away from his son. Solomon's story shows us that especially in times of plenty, we should rejoice in the goodness and holiness of our God, denying all others.
