Trusting God in Every Step | Your Daily Bible Verse

How has God helped you step out in faith? Has He given you courage? Although most of us want to live bold, extraordinary lives of purpose and eternal impact, fear can hold us back from fully yielding to God. Often our minds jump to that big, possible assignment, not recognizing that the Lord builds our faith muscles and our trust in Him through the little yeses we offer today. But most importantly, our obedience, however timid, also deepens our intimacy with Him, the God who reigns over all and remains with us through every challenge we encounter and overwhelming assignment we embrace. Passage discussed: Esther 4, particularly her courage to risk her life to save her people, and how this reminded us of Jesus’s ultimate hard yes to die on the cross so that we might live. Daily Devotion for 15Nov

Mother Fighting Cancer Overwhelmed by Secret Santa’s Generosity

Eastern Idaho’s Secret Santa is at it again, this time blessing a young mother fighting cancer. Nate Eaton, along with his cameraman Jordan Wood, act as Santa’s elves and deliver gifts for a local Santa every day between now and Christmas. On this day, they are in cold Teton, Idaho, surprising Rachael.

When Rachael went in for a checkup in May, her doctor noticed something unusual in her blood tests. Upon further investigation, they discovered that Rachael had developed acute leukemia. Following an emergency visit to a specialist in Salt Lake, Rachael spent nearly six weeks in the hospital. Though Rachael has been discharged, she now continues regular, aggressive treatments closer to home.

Moving forward, the young woman will have several spinal taps and other tests, and she will take expensive cancer-fighting medications following the completion of her chemotherapy. Rachael has a long road ahead of her. She’s the momma of two young children, and one of them has special needs. Rachael is described as a “sweet and simple person who has always done the best she can with the resources and support she gets,” and the region’s anonymous Santa wants to provide just that.

With $10,000 worth of gift cards and checks, Nate heads for the door to meet Rachael. While Rachael appears a little uncertain at first, she opens the screen door between her and Nate in mere seconds. She wears the bandages, tubes, and PICC lines of a courageous cancer-fighting person and a t-shirt that says she’s “more powerful” than a superhero. Offering a beautiful, bright smile, she tells Nate that she’s doing good and feeling generally alright.

Nate explains the purpose of his visit. She’s been at an appointment, but he’s arranged a ruse with her friend in order to catch Rachael at home when he arrives. Nate gives Rachael the boxes he’s brought, and she opens the first one. It’s full of $250 gift cards to Kohls and grocery stores! Next, she opens a box with gift cards to Lowe’s—she can purchase the new washer and dryer that she will soon need. Rachael is giddy with excitement. She giggles in delight, aware of the fact that Christmas has certainly come early for her and her family!

Nate hands Rachael a final box. This one has a check for $5,000 in it; the money is for any other expenses they may be facing. The gift overwhelms Rachael. She holds her hand over her mouth in shock, and her laughter turns to happy tears. Rachael says, “That’s so kind! Thank you—oh, my gosh—to whomever did this. Oh, my gosh! Oh, thank you so much.”

With well wishes on her health journey and greetings for her husband, Nate bids farewell. What a fun job he and Jordan have! They will keep busy this season, delivering Secret Santa’s gifts. Eastern Idaho’s man in red plans to give $1,000,000 to deserving folks in the area!

“The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” Proverbs 22:9

Author Gets Emotional on Call with Teacher Who Encouraged and Inspired Her

A bestselling author got emotional on a call with a teacher who encouraged and inspired her. This is such a sweet and heartwarming moment of a woman, now a bestselling author, who reached out to her former teacher to thank him for his impact on her life. You will want to check out this moving clip!

Teaching is not an easy profession, but it’s an extremely important one. We always need good and dedicated teachers, and we can never have too many of them in the classroom. Educators impact the next generation; what those teachers say and do in the classroom matters greatly.

Teachers, with just a few words or a particular lesson, could change a student’s entire life. A teacher’s kind and encouraging words could be just the thing someone needs to get them to see and achieve their potential. That’s precisely what happened to author Abby Jimenez, a New York Times bestselling author.

In a clip posted on YouTube, Abby decided to reach out to her former high school teacher to thank him for his encouragement. He made her believe that she could go on and do great things with her writing and make it a career, which she has done.

“The only schooling that I ever had for writing was your class,” she says to her former teacher. “You made me love writing. You were so encouraging. It was the only class that I liked in my whole high school career. That was the only class that I enjoyed. And, you know, I just wanted to tell you that how much you meant because I don’t know if I would be a writer today if it wasn’t for you.”

Later in the clip, the teacher mentioned how much hearing from Abby meant to him.

“Hearing these kinds of things from your students is really better than winning some kind of award or getting a good review from your principal,” he said.

Psalm 32:8 “I will give you knowledge, teaching you the way to go; my eye will be your guide.”

'A Christmas Story' Actor Reflects On The Classic Film

An actor who had a major role, arguably the biggest one, in the beloved “A Christmas Story” reflected on the classic film. Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie in the movie, discussed why he believes so many people love and continue to identify with “A Christmas Story.” You’ll, without a doubt, want to check out this clip.

Christmas is a fun, wonderful season, easily the best time of the year. It’s a period filled with a seemingly endless lineup of customs and traditions. A big part of those family traditions includes watching specific Christmas television specials and Christmas-themed movies together. To many people, one film that is required viewing every Christmas is “A Christmas Story.”

In a clip posted on YouTube, Peter, whose character desperately wanted a BB gun in the film, discussed the film, specifically why the film remains so popular more than 40 years after its release.

“I think the biggest feedback that I’ve always heard is people will say, ‘That’s my family,’” Peter said. “And I think what they mean is, which is also kind of wild because this movie takes place in the 40s. So, there’s something timeless about the characters, about the archetypes of the old man, of the mom, of the brothers, of the bullies in the neighborhood.”

He later added how he believes people identify with what the characters experience and go through in the film.

“And I think there’s also a lot of hope in the movie,” he said. “You know, it’s pretty real there. The characters, they go through a lot of bumps and bruises, but it always culminates in the magic of Christmas Day. And I think that’s familiar for a lot of us as well. Our families aren’t perfect. We go through a lot, especially during the holiday season.”

Peter also mentioned how the film was not initially a big hit with audiences but slowly started to pick up steam and popularity as people began sharing VHS copies of the movie.

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Students Spread Christ’s Love Through Operation Christmas Child Initiative

A group of students is spreading and showing Christ’s love to others through Samaritan’s Purse’s “Operation Christmas Child.” One school district in Southern California has been involved in the excellent initiative for more than two decades. You’ll want to check out how these students and school administrators have been working to show people around the world love and compassion.

Christmas is, without question, the most enjoyable and beautiful time of year. The beauty of the Christmas season does not just come from the show-stopping, awe-inspiring lighting displays. It also comes from how people tend to treat one another during the Christmas season. Individuals exhibit more kindness, love and generosity, showing others more compassion, grace and patience.

The students, staff and administrators of the Pacific Southwest District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Irvine, California, have been packing shoeboxes for children worldwide for over 20 years. To the district’s teachers and administrators, Operation Christmas Child is an excellent opportunity for them to show those in need Christ’s love.

“It’s just such an easy way to share Jesus’s love with people all around the world,” Ashley Klitzing, a teacher, said.

“There’s just something so tangible about a student giving back,” Sally Brink, a teacher, said.

The effort has grown so large and become so important at the school that the system dedicates one entire school day to packing the shoeboxes.

The school’s students are fully aware of the impact their kind and loving efforts are having on those in need worldwide.

“It brings our community together. It brings our school together,” Ashley, a student, said. “The impact that it has, the impact that it has had and the impact that it will have in the future is just so great. And it’s amazing that we get to be a part of that.”

According to Samaritan’s Purse, “Operation Christmas Child delivers great joy and the Good News of Jesus Christ to children in need around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes.”

Volunteers stuff shoeboxes with toys, much-needed personal care items and school supplies, which are then sent to children around the world.

Mom of Child Facing Health Issues Brought to Tears by Heartwarming Secret Santa Gift

Grab your tissues because you’ll be moved when a heartwarming Secret Santa gift brings a mom of a child facing serious health issues to tears! Nate Eaton from East Idaho News presents a few impactful gifts to this sweet momma, and the moment will surely get you in the holiday spirit. Check it out!

Before knocking on the door, Nate, serving as one of Santa’s elves, explains why a local Secret Santa is blessing Alejandro and Alexa’s family. Described as “warm, giving people who are always serving others,” the couple’s 4-year-old son was struck with devastating health issues in September.

One of the couple’s three beautiful children, Owen, had become lethargic and unable to keep food or fluids down. The boy was admitted to the hospital and began having seizures—an entirely new symptom. An MRI revealed that the seizures were being caused by pressure from excess fluid in Owen’s brain. Owen underwent immediate surgery after being transported to Utah’s Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Little Owen recovered for about one week before going home with his parents, but, just a few days later, he started having headaches and was again unable to keep food down. In early October, the couple returned to Primary Children’s, and a second MRI showed that the fluid was building again. Owen had a second surgery.

Alejandro, Alexa, and Owen have returned home following the second surgery, but there will be many appointments with occupational and physical therapists, as well as visits to Owen’s neurologist in SLC. East Idaho’s anonymous Santa knew the family could use extra love and support.

Nate knocks, and Alexa opens the door. Dressed in his Halloween pajamas, Owen stands next to Alexa and looks a little sleepy and shy. Nate introduces himself and cameraman Jordan. Alexa is surprised but friendly and sweet, and Owen perks up to the opportunity to help open the gifts Secret Santa has sent.

Together, Alexa and Owen open two little boxes. One has $2,000 in Maverik gas cards, and a second has $3,000 in gift cards to Smith’s Food and Drug Center, which has multiple locations in the Salt Lake City area. Alexa is so touched by the generosity! Nate hands beautiful Alexa a final package, and inside she finds a check for $5,000—sure to help out with expenses during this time.

The picture on the entry wall beside Alexa reads “Blessed,” and that is what she calls the gifts she’s been given. Alexa is tremendously appreciative of what the anonymous benefactor has done for her family.

After getting an update on Owen’s health, Nate leaves well wishes from Secret Santa and offers hugs and knuckles to Alexa and Owen. Owen is doing good right now. Alexa reports that they will return in November for a follow-up visit. What a precious little boy he is! East Idaho’s Secret Santa plans to give $1 million to families who can use some help!

“Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this, the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.” Deuteronomy 15:10

High School Runner's Extraordinary Act of Sportsmanship And Kindness

One high school runner demonstrated extraordinary sportsmanship and kindness, and the heartwarming and unexpected act was caught on camera. The young lady’s loving move will likely renew your hope in humanity and bring tears to your eyes. Check out this video; you’ll be glad you did!

Many people love watching individuals compete against one another in just about anything. Determining who is a winner and loser is a big part of our competition-obsessed society. Athletes train countless hours, investing their blood, sweat and tears so that they can come out on top when that game, match or meet finally arrives.

There is nothing wrong with competition and competing against others. But many people can and do become obsessed with winning and forget that it’s nothing more than a game, and in the long run, it doesn’t really matter. Even when they do win, they exhibit poor sportsmanship, rubbing their victory in their fellow competitors' faces.

A video posted on YouTube captures a young woman who displayed unbelievable kindness, sportsmanship, and strength of character. In the clip, runners are approaching the finish line of a cross-country race. One runner can be spotted down on the ground, only yards away from the finish line. According to the video’s description, her legs had given out.

As other competitors pass the runner on the ground, one young woman from a rival high school helps her to her feet, and the two walk to the finish line together. But that wasn’t the only way the young woman assisted her fellow runner. She also provided her with sweet, uplifting words of encouragement as they neared the finish line.

“I was just, kept repeating, ‘Lord give her strength,’ and encouraging her with, ‘You got this. You can push through; we’re almost there, just a little bit longer,’” the young woman said.

1 Corinthians 9:24 “Do you not see that in a running competition all take part, but only one gets the reward? So let your minds be fixed on the reward.”

Woman's Emotional Reunion with Child She Saved With Liver Donation

A woman experienced an emotional, tear-filled reunion with the young child she helped to save by donating part of her liver. This is such a sweet, heartwarming story and moment. Be sure to check out this clip!

Life can be an adventure, and that’s putting it relatively lightly. It is a series of unexpected events, most of which we have little to no control over. Life-changing situations and circumstances can crop up out of nowhere and through no fault of our own.

Sadly, many of these unfortunate, life-changing and unforeseen situations involve medical and health challenges. No one is exempt from them, not even the smallest and most vulnerable members of society: children.

A clip posted on YouTube details a situation in which a child and his family were impacted by a terrible medical situation. Luckily, one woman stepped up in a big way to help save his life, and their reunion will bring a tear or two or three to your eyes.

According to the video, Sunny, the child, was born with biliary atresia, which is a condition that impacts the liver. Eventually, as the text in the video makes clear, doctors determined that the young man needed a liver transplant. It was then that one woman, Sandy Flash, literally gave up a part of herself.

Sandy agreed to donate a part of her liver to young Sunny. The transplant surgery was a success, and the little guy was finally able to leave the hospital after months.

The clip shows Sandy and Sunny’s family in several warm, tear-filled embraces. What an emotional and heartwarming moment. That will be one reunion that Sandy and Sunny’s family will never forget.

“I just feel called to do this, and I asked other people to do this,” Sandy said with tears in her eyes. “And I want to help someone else.”

1 Corinthians 16:14 “Let all you do be done in love.”

Wonderful Way To Introduce Children To The Power Of Prayer

One woman shared a wonderful, simple, but ingenious way to introduce children to the power of prayer. Author and speaker Priscilla Shirer joined Candace Cameron Bure on her podcast and shared how she has shown her children the powerful impact of prayer. This is a clip that you’ll want to watch for sure!

Communication is a necessary component of any and every relationship. It doesn’t matter if the person is a friend, a spouse, a co-worker or a neighbor. What kind of a bond or relationship do you have with someone you don’t talk to at least semi-regularly? Not much of one, of course.

Just like with a spouse or a friend, continual and consistent communication is necessary for a relationship with God. Prayer is the method by which we can go directly to the Creator of the Universe. Through prayer, we can give him our praises and requests and lay our worries and concerns at His feet.

Prayer is powerful and can change lives and situations. In a clip posted on YouTube, Priscilla tells Candace about the ingenious and moving way she has introduced her children to that power and shown them how God works in our lives.

She recalls some advice she received from a friend concerning prayer.

“She said to me, ‘When there is a problem that needs to be solved, don’t you just pray about it. Ask your kid to pray about it with you so that when God answers, whatever the answer is, they’re aware and can connect the dots that God did it,’” she said.

Priscilla added that, looking back, she can see her parents doing the same thing with her as a child. It’s now something she has continued to do with her children.

“I remember my parents doing that with me on several occasions,” she said. “We prayed about something, and then we were aware when there was an answer.”

Mark 11:24 “For this reason I say to you, ‘Whatever you make a request for in prayer, have faith that it has been given to you, and you will have it.’”

Salvation

Salvation is a pivotal theme in Christianity, symbolizing deliverance from sin and reconciliation with God. It involves belief in Jesus Christ as the Savior, whose life, death, and resurrection offer a pathway to eternal life and restoration. The concept of salvation begins with recognizing sin as a breach in humanity's relationship with God. Sin separates individuals from divine love and purpose. The Bible states, “for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), indicating that everyone needs redemption. At the core of salvation is Jesus Christ. Christians believe His sacrificial death on the cross paid the penalty for humanity's sins, exemplifying God's grace and inviting a faith response. The New Testament clarifies that salvation is a gift from God, not achieved through human effort. Ephesians 2:8-9 reinforces this: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Faith is essential in the salvation process. It is through faith that individuals accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This faith includes repentance—a genuine turning away from sin and a commitment to follow Christ. Believers often describe this transformative experience as being "born again" (John 3:3), marking the start of a lifelong journey of discipleship and spiritual growth. The Discipleship Process

Discipleship is a spiritual journey of learning to follow and love Jesus, and to become more like him. It's a lifelong process that involves growing in relationship with other disciples, and includes: Studying the Bible, Praying together, Witnessing to each other, Fellowshipping, and Mentoring. The term "disciple" comes from the ancient Near East, and in the Bible, it refers to a learner who follows a master teacher. In the New Testament, Jesus expected his followers to become more like him, and told them to "deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow me". Disciple-making is a subset of discipleship and involves helping others to follow Jesus as you do. Discipleship is a joy that involves loving and being loved and knowing and being known. It's also about enjoying the beauty of Christ with others, and through them Discipleship is characterized by hard work and study, as it involves a committed effort to learn and grow in one's faith while following Jesus. This journey includes several key elements: 1. Studying the Bible: Engaging deeply with Scripture is crucial for understanding the teachings of Jesus and how to embody them in daily life. This study requires time and effort to comprehend and apply biblical principles. 2. Praying Together: Prayer is an essential component of discipleship, fostering a deeper connection with God and with fellow disciples. It often involves discipline and dedication to maintain regular communication with God. 3. Witnessing to Each Other: Sharing experiences, challenges, and insights with one another can be hard work but is vital for growth and encouragement in the faith journey. 4. Fellowshiping: Building meaningful relationships with others in the faith community requires effort and commitment. This fellowship supports discipleship by providing a space for mutual growth and accountability. 5. Mentoring: Guiding others in their spiritual journey can be challenging, as it requires patience and a commitment to help others navigate their faith experiences. Overall, discipleship is a lifelong process that demands diligence, but it is also filled with joy and growth as individuals strive to become more like Christ and support one another in their spiritual journeys.

Young Man’s Words and Beautiful Outlook on Life Is a Lesson for Us All

One young man’s words and beautiful outlook on life is a lesson for us all. His words, demeanor and perspective are upbeat and positive, even when encountering issues and problems. We would all be better off considering and imitating this young man’s attitude and outlook. Be sure to check out the video.

Life is not constantly one big fun adventure, and things will not always work out in our favor. Unfortunately, we’ll experience issues and problems, often resulting from nothing we’ve done. Some of these circumstances will be painful and even cause heartache.

When we encounter troubling issues or problems, the natural human response is to complain, stress and have a “woe is me” mentality. Everyone does that, but one young man’s unexpected response and outlook to such a situation is refreshing, inspiring and uplifting. Instead of dwelling on the problem, he found reasons to remain thankful and upbeat.

In the short video posted on social media, the young man on his way to school addresses everyone watching the video and says, “Be grateful that you woke up this morning!” After showing the sun coming up over the horizon, he adds, “It’s a beautiful day to be alive.”

He explains that he overslept this morning and was initially irritated with himself. But then he saw his Bible and realized and remembered that he is incredibly blessed.

“Sometimes we let the littlest things get in the way of the big thing: the blessing,” he said. “It’s a blessing to wake up in the morning. It’s a blessing to breathe. It’s a blessing to have clean water. It’s a blessing to go to school. All of this stuff is a blessing.”

The Lord is kind, loving and continually blesses and touches our lives – even when we encounter problems or go through dark valleys. We should all strive to remember how blessed we are in life, especially during troubling circumstances.

1 Thessalonians 5:18“In everything give praise: for this is the purpose of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Couple Married for 83 Years Is a Display Of Unwavering Commitment and Love

Love that lasts a lifetime is a rare gift. Especially in a world where quick fixes often replace long-term commitment, one couple is celebrating being married for 83 years, and it’s a display of unwavering commitment and love that is so rare. We often hear about the honeymoon phase of relationships where everything feels new and exciting, and love seems effortless, but what happens when that feeling fades when the days stretch into decades? True, lasting love is built on more than feelings. It’s rooted in commitment, respect, and faith–just like the beautiful story of Thell and Margie Ellison.

They stood atop a hill overlooking a creek on June 24, 1941, when they said, “I do.” Little did they know they would be the example of love that impacts future generations. In their early days of marriage, it would’ve been so easy to give up as they lived in a modest log cabin with no running water or power. Margie cooked their meals over a wood stove.

But their simple life led to a deep, great love they had for each other. The secret to their marriage was treating each other right and loving each other even through the hardest days.

"We just tried to live right and treat each other right, and love each other," Margie said. "We are so thankful for our children. They were a great blessing, but the main thing is to show respect and love."

This passionate, enduring love led to one of their greatest blessings; besides 83 years of marriage, it was having a family that reaches over three generations. As their church celebrated their anniversary, they captured it on video with the caption: “Together, 107-year-old Thell and 99-year-old Margie raised five children, 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 31 great-great-great-grandchildren.”

True love doesn’t come from perfect, and it comes from a heart willing to serve, sacrifice, and choose one another every day. May their love inspire us to love our spouses and families with the same devotion, faith, and hope.

Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
