Country Music Hall of Fame member Tanya Tucker joins acclaimed actor, singer-songwriter and musician Dennis Quaid and late legendary songwriter Kris Kristofferson for the release of the new single, “On My Way to Heaven,” available today from Gaither Music Group on all streaming platforms. The reflective new collaboration is accompanied by an official music video that premiered at a special world premiere event at The Grand Ole Opry.
Featuring one of Kristofferson’s final filmed performances before his passing in 2024, “On My Way to Heaven” brings together three unmistakable voices across music and film for a deeply personal meditation on grace, redemption and the roads that lead us home. The song was written by Quaid and the music video was directed by John Carter Cash, and the project features a redemptive cinematic portrayal that stars Tucker, Quaid, and Kristofferson.
“This film and song have such a deep message, and I want to share this song and film with the world. Everybody needs to hear it, because it’s for everyone. Because hopefully, we’re all on our way to heaven,” said Tucker. “When we started working on the project, I had an opportunity to work with Kris Kristofferson. This is one of the last projects he worked on before he went to Heaven. And I’m so grateful we had that opportunity. Dennis Quaid also starred in the video and he wrote the lyrics. John Carter Cash directed it. It was a once in a lifetime moment to make a piece of art with a group of artists and creatives. That will never happen again. It’s a beautiful moment frozen in time.”
“Recording ‘On My Way to Heaven’ with Kris Kristofferson and Tanya Tucker was one of the most meaningful experiences of my career,” said Quaid. “I wrote this song as a reflection on redemption, sobriety, faith, and the journey of finding peace after life’s struggles. Having Kris lend his voice to it during what became his final recording session was an extraordinary honor and something I’ll always treasure. Kris brought a depth, wisdom, and authenticity that only he could. Sharing this moment with both Kris and Tanya made the song even more special, and I’m deeply grateful to have been part of creating this lasting musical memory.”
The official music video for “On My Way to Heaven” will make its world premiere June 20 during a special appearance by Tucker and Quaid at The Grand Ole Opry, where the video will debut on the Opry’s big screen. Quaid and Tucker will perform additional songs together live from the historic Nashville stage as part of the performance which will land just two days prior to Kristofferson’s birthday on June 22nd.
Earlier this month, Tucker and Quaid also appeared together at CMA Fest for a special panel discussion titled The Last Take: Behind the “On My Way to Heaven” Music Video, moderated by veteran music journalist Deborah Evans Price.
“One of the things we value most is bringing artists together for deeply meaningful projects, and 'On My Way to Heaven' is a special example of that,” said Paul Sizelove, President, Sun Label Group and Gaither Music Group. “Tanya, Dennis, Kris, and John Carter Cash each brought their own voice and perspective. Together, they created something that reflects the legacy each of them carries and captures a rare moment when those worlds came together. We’re honored to help bring a project like this to audiences and give them the chance to experience it.”
Best known as one of country music’s most enduring and influential voices, Tucker continues to build on a career spanning more than five decades, including multiple GRAMMY®, CMA and ACM honors and her 2023 induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Quaid, an Emmy® Award nominee and two-time Golden Globe® nominee, has also maintained a longtime career as a touring musician and songwriter alongside his acclaimed film work. Kristofferson’s legacy as one of America’s most revered songwriters and storytellers continues to influence generations of artists across country, folk, Americana and film.
