Seamus Mulligan

Seamus Mulligan, born James Patrick Mulligan in County Monaghan, Ireland, and raised in County Offaly, became a cherished voice of Irish culture in Boston from 1988 through late 2024. For over three decades, he hosted A Feast of Irish Music—a Sunday afternoon staple on WROL Irish 950—where he showcased not just the music, but the people, history, and stories behind Ireland’s rich heritage.
His program blended traditional reels and reels of history, interviews, and reflections with pride, intelligence, and deep affection for Irish achievements. At precisely 2 PM each week, he delivered a live sports segment—called “The Man in the Middle”—direct from Ireland, connecting listeners back to homeland events and passion.
Professionally, Mulligan had careers in banking and retail—including work at First National Bank of Boston and as a partner in the Irish Cottage Shops. His leadership extended to the Irish Cultural Center in Canton, MA, where he served as president and directed its annual Irish Festival. His contributions earned him a Gold Medal from the Boston Éire Society and recognition in works like Boston Irish by photographer Bill Brett.
He peacefully passed away on November 17, 2024, at age 89. His passing was mourned throughout Greater Boston’s Irish-American community and beyond, with tributes honoring his decades of dedication to radio and culture
