After the Cross: Encountering God

Southside Baptist Church
Sunday, April 12, 2015 - Morning Service
John 20:1-18

Summary: After celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are faced with the question of how that news should impact our lives. By looking at Mary Magdalene's encounter with the resurrected Christ, we try to answer the question for us today.

Romans 12:4-11

4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. 9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

Romans 5:1-10

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

THE RESURRECTION

IN HIS OPENING STATEMENT;BISHOP MACK E. INGRAM TELLS US IS THE MAIN THING CHRISTIANS MUST BELIEVE IN IS THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST OR ELSE OUR CHRISTIANITY IS ALL IN VAIN.

Rev. C. David Coyle

Stress can be a healthy thing, but it must be controlled in a scriptural manner to keep it from causing real harm to our health and our faith expression. Distress is a failure to keep our attention on the Word of God.

Acts 13:13-21

13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem. 14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. 15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. 16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience. 17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it. 18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. 19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot. 20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.

4-9-15 TnT THURSDAYS - "Caught In The Act!"

A woman was caught in the act of adultery and cast at Jesus feet. He demonstrated the greatest love, compassion, and grace ever seen within Judaism. The church today acts completely contrary to the example set by the Lord and yet still has the gall to claim to represent Him. Now who is caught in the act of the most abominable sin a man can commit? Christians! As they see themselves greater than the Lord Himself thus qualifying them to sit in judgment of and to condemn others in spite of Biblical mandates to love our neighbor, treat others as wish to be treated, and not to judge. A VERY powerful message!

Acts 9:4-7

And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

Yes There Really Is True Religion... Are You Extreme Enough For It? - KLPTV.ORG

Yes Virginia, there really is a true religion. "So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don't obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you." [James 1:21-27 (NLT)]

Our future is dark because so many Christians refuse to even take their responsibility to vote for righteous and just leaders. "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men." [Matthew 5:13] For evil to prevail all it takes is indifference.

Why The Church Desperately Needs Women of Faith Today - KLPTV.ORG

[3] the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things-- [4] that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, [5] to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. Titus 2:3-5

The reason for such high standards of moral character and life style is the great need for spiritual grandmothers! Notice in verse four that the mature Christian women are to focus on and take responsibility to pour out their lives into the younger Christian women and disciple them. This is not a small task. "Teachers of good things" encompasses raising girls and young women in all aspects of Christian life. The weight of female discipleship training rests on the shoulders of the church's spiritual ladies, not the male pastor!

"Now she who is really a widow, and left alone, trusts in God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. [6] But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. [7] And these things command, that they may be blameless." 1 Tim 5:5-7

The Evidence Of God's Hand on His People is Grace - KLPTV.ORG

The Lord releases grace as a river of life pushing and shoving us to holiness and freedom from sin. Grace is the release of God's power inside each believer causing, first desires to obey and serve Him, and secondly power to fulfill His will. "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me" 2 Cor 12:9 (KJV). Before salvation, "sin has reigned unto death," but in Christ, "even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 5:21 (KJV) "... it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." Phil 2:13 (NKJV)

"We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him." 1 John 5:18 (NKJV)

God's hand is upon His true children and they are radically changed from His power of new birth. The sincere religious people who attend church meetings or just live their lives, falsely believing they have a relationship with God, are exposed by the fact they still live in sin, instead of experiencing God's heavy hand of Fatherhood and the resulting blessing of the power of right living!
