Acts 13:40-52

Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets; 41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you. 42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. 43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. 44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. 46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

Romans 5:11-21

And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Peter's Journey: Dealing With Dirt

Southside Baptist Church
April 26, 2015 - Morning Service
John 13:1-17

Summary: As Jesus washes the feet of the disciples, he presents them with a unique and life-altering lesson on leadership and identity, which can be seen in Peter's later ministry. As we consider this story from Peter's life, we ask ourselves how it impacted Peter's journey and consider how it should impact our own.

The Parable of the Seed (and the Science of Germination)

In this message we’re going to listen to Jesus’ parable of the growing seed and ponder the mysteries of germination and plant growth and then see what both teach us about the kingdom of God.

“[Jesus] also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”
Mark 4:26–29, NIV

Acts 13:31-39

1 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. 32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, 33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. 34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. 35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: 37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. 38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: 39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

Overview of the New Testament

The page in your Bible between Malachi and Matthew that says "The New Testament" was not put there by God, and is a misnomer that has confused millions of Christians through the centuries. The Four Gospels actually conclude "The Old Testament," the Book of Acts shows the birth of Christianity, and the Church Epistles lay out the Lord's curriculum for Christians today. This brief overview is both enlightening and exciting!

Peter's Journey: Walking on Water

Southside Baptist Church
Sunday, April 19, 2015 - Morning Service
Matthew 14:22-33

Summary: What is it about our heroes that makes them seem so larger than life? As we begin a new series, we are going to spend some time looking at the faith journey of the Apostle Peter, realizing that he faced many of the same struggles that we do. As we examine the time when Jesus and Peter walked upon the water, we consider what it means to have self-confidence in God, and how all things are possible when God is involved.
