Too much of what passes today as "Christian" doctrine, i.e., "The Bible says...", makes no sense. When an inquiring mind points that out, the answer too often is, "Take it on faith." Whoa! Biblically defined, "faith" is not superstition, i.e., believing nonsense, but is rational trust in an intelligible promise. And GOD is THE GOD of PROMISE.

The shortcoming of the New Age movement or philosophy is that its adherents actually believe that there is something "new under the sun." The world is the same, man's nature is the same, the rules that govern them are the same. They close their eyes to what is and expect to open them to what they hope it will be. That is misplaced faith.

What would our world be like if poverty didn't exist? How would individual nations interact? Would commerce change directions? Governments might deliberate over issues that would really change our world. Pastor Dr. Darren Goodman's message Arresting Poverty will stimulate ideas that challenge status quo. Jesus said, "the poor are with you always". What is the poor? Is it confined to economic status?

If the Scriptures are the Word of God, what do they say about the "Christ"? Is it really true that the "Christ" of Israel must suffer and die on a cross, only to be raised from the dead on the third day? Such an idea seemed offensive, but the apostle Paul demonstrated this by reasoning directly from the texts of Moses and the Prophets. Do you find such arguments compelling? Did you know that it is possible to teach the truth of God's Word and do so for the wrong motives? If God had to choose, He'd rather have a sleazeball teaching truth than an upright man teaching error about His Word? Why? Because all the hearers could benefit from the former, but not the latter. Of course what God really wants is for an upright man to teach truth. The two sections from Philippians and Thessalonians covered in this teaching are inspiring.
